Why average performer outperforms me?

I tried a bit could not do anything in CVR project. Prof., a nice human being gave us 15 days more to submit the same. I think this is the effect of economic meltdown that companies have started expecting more and on the contrary IIM professors who know the market conditions have started understanding working manager's problems at work place.

Today, I was analyzing that I generally do things quite fast but still the aggregate output produced by me is quite less. I am a quick learner but balance is missing. There are average performers but they put efforts in one direction. And I put my effort in multiple things.

Most of my time goes in tracking. One should complete all those activities which take some share of mind. Mind has limited capacity or bandwidth. And if you postpone an activity for some time, it does not mean it's not taking your efforts. It is actually taking lot of tracking efforts. I need to prioritize things and mark it as done quickly. There are few things which have less value but take lot of energy. I should minimize these activities. For example, my imint reward points, airtel bill calculations, orkut updates, paying bills etc. An example to explain this in a better way. I am suppose to collect my form 16 from finance. I have been thinking about this for long and I have been planning about it many times. This activity is taking some share of my mind which I could release for other important activity. Anyways, I have to get that before 31st March this year. I will do it on this Monday. Need to track it, add reminder...?

We are group of 4 people in cab who travel for MBA, Eklavya, Pragya, Krishna and Vishal. We have lot of discussions on various issues as the basic nature of MBA students. Pragya and me were discussing what kind of people become CEOs or lead the organizations? Why not Charted accountants become CEOs when they have more details?

Why is MBA required when people say they teach only making colorful presentations in IIMs?

First day at work, year 2009...

So I could make the ladies get ready last night to go to the temple. Nidhi first salary was credited in her brand new bank account so she treated us last night with some sweets, icecreams and paan (from a nearby paanwala). Convincing power is the best personality trait, which is ignored many times. Most of the management skills, I found are based upon once convincing skills.

Nidhi could convince me last night about going to her parents place. I found her packing things early in the morning when I realized that she is making a good start of the new year!!!

First day at work, year 2009 was not that happening, may be because people have Friday fever and most of the people enjoy long weekend.

I had a long discussion with Rahul, my close friend about how shall a newly wed couple should invite guests. One couple should invite one couple at a time or should have bunch of couples to make it more happening :-)

It's very peaceful to work when Nidhi is not around and when you have to submit an assignment on Corporate Valuation and Restructuring. And the members in your project group are all Social Loafers. This is a term used in management when people generally don't prefer to work and assume that other person will finish up the tasks. This is also a skill not very rare to find.

So I borrowed my own laptop from my dear sister who works from home and becomes very possessive for this machine at night when aliens like me and Nidhi reach home.

Let me utilize the time and complete the project before Richa asks for it :-)

Happy New Year 2009...

God has gifted us many ways to start afresh... a new day, a new month, a new year. I was just wondering what is so special about a new year... this is just another day. On the modern Gregorian calendar, it is celebrated on January 1, as it was also in ancient Rome. I generally believe if the first day of year goes great then year will also joyful. Not sure this is myth but this gives me chance to correct at least one day out of 365.

Yesterday, we celebrated last day of 2008 by cooking pao bhaji. I stay with my wife Nidhi and sister Richa. So things started with 3 pegs of Vodka and then having pao bhaji with lots of butter while watching movie Namaste London. 1st Jan is a holiday, thanks to the company. We planned to go to the temple today but laziness is part of life. And generally do not follow any calendar. May be I will check mood of the ladies if we can go to some near by temple and also have some warm milk at omsweets. I know myself, I am a true foodie "A class of aficionado of food and drink".
